By Eirin Kallestad, Washington, DC, USA

We all have our dream trip. That special trip we wait years to take, the trip that nobody else necessarily understands the appeal of, but that leaves us with a feeling of wonder and completeness and joy. This is the story of my dream trip.

I lived and studied in Bologna, Italy for one year (2003-2004), and while school took a lot of time, there were also opportunities for travel. My most memorable trip that year took place around Easter, in early April, when I visited Basilicata and Puglia with two friends. I had been to Puglia and Campania before, but never Basilicata, and I was blown away. I had wanted to visit Basilicata ever since I read Carlo Leviís famous book Christ Stopped at Eboli (Cristo si Ť fermato a Eboli) several years earlier. So a dark and rainy Wednesday morning we left Bologna and headed for the South in a rented Fiat Punto.
