They now realize that if they go overseas on vacation we will find them so they simply invite us ahead of time. You may recall the time CJ got stranded in Paris and showed up at their hotel room thanks to some fine detective work on the part of Carol. Then there was the time we decided to invite them out for lunch on another of their Paris vacations. They decided to placate us with an invitation for a wonderful week on Lake Como thinking we may finally relent but we once again tracked them down the following year in Tuscany to jointly celebrate New Years 2004. Not satisfied with crashing their vacations we decided to find and harass retired friends of theirs on a chance encounter in St. Croix (more on this later from Montepulciano). So it was no wonder when their one bedroom apartment was replaced with a three-bedroom unit, they succumbed to the inevitable, went on the offensive and called us with a choice of weeks in Umbria. Usually packing is a challenge because we’ve either just returned from vacation or CJ has recently returned from a business trip. This time we faced additional challenges. CJ returned late on Friday evening and we had to be packed and on our way by Sunday afternoon. The problem was that we had to pack for two days of business in Northern Virginia, a week in Italy, three more days of business in Northern Virginia concluding with a trip to the Shenandoah Valley for the Civil War reenactment of the Battle of Cedar Creek. Work clothing, vacation clothing, reenactment clothing and equipment including CJ’s gun and two large wooden chairs and we had the Chrysler 300M riding low on the Interstate. |
