We spent one night at Blackstones during a week-long, 60-mile hike on the Ring of Kerry. We had walked about 15 miles (10-1/2 hours) when we finally reached Blackstones House. We were warmly greeted by the owners and their two friendly dogs. Blackstones is situated on the Carragh River in a very scenic spot at the foot of Carrauntuohill, the highest mountain in Ireland. The area is quite isolated, but an excellent and central location for touring the Ring of Kerry. We had a huge room for the three of us, a family room with some cooking facilities. I believe the other five rooms are more traditional en-suite B&B rooms. We did have our dinner at the B&B, and it was excellent; a three-course home-cooked meal. (The first course was smoked salmon, caught in the river.) We enjoyed chatting with the other guests (including a couple from Louisville, Kentucky). Breakfast was also very substantial and the service was friendly. They do sell beer and wine. This review is the opinion of a Slow Travel member and not of slowtrav.com. |
