Leasow House is an absolutely delightful B&B, in a beautiful setting south of Broadway in the Cotwswolds. It's hosted by the Meekings, a wonderful couple.

I thought it was about time I got around to posting a review of the Leasow House. I've been saying I'd do so for months. I suppose you could say we like it, as we've stayed there FOUR times. I cannot imagine a more delightful - or convenient - place to stay in the Cotswolds. And what is more, it is quite reasonable!

I can't remember how I first learned about Leasow House. We were looking for a place to stay in the Cotswolds on our trip to the UK in 1998. It may have been in a UK guide book, or it may have been on the SmoothHound Website. In any case, we were hardly disappointed once we got there. In fact, we cancelled plans for a later stay at a B&B in Wells, to follow a few days in Hay-on-Wye in Wales, and returned to the Leasow House instead.

Where do I begin? I think I'll start with the location. The Leasow House is a renovated 16th century Cotswold stone farmhouse in a bucolic and peaceful farm setting just a few minutes south of Broadway. A few minutes further in the other direction is the charming town of Winchcombe. Closer than either is the unbelievably picturesque village of Snowshill. And you'll find some enchanting surprise down every narrow little country road.

Then there are the accommodations themselves. All rooms are en suite, with modern, fully equipped bathrooms. We've stayed in three different rooms, two in the main house, and one in an adjoining annex. All were spotless and very comfortable. A hospitality tray is in each room, stocked with tea, biscuits, and candies. In addition, just to the right of the main entrance is a library, complete with plush easy chairs, shelves of books for leisure reading, a notebook full of information about local restaurants as well as things to do and see, and a tray of complimentary sherry.

Breakfast, of course, is included, and it is plentiful. In addition to a choice of cereals and fruits, hot English breakfasts are served, with daily variations, and fixed as you wish. It is served in an airy room overlooking the lovely back garden, which invites interaction with the other guests, if desired.

Perhaps what's best about Leasow House, though, are the hosts, Barbara and Gordon Meekings. They couldn't be more accommodating, friendly, or helpful. The last time we were there, in the Spring of 2004, I was traveling with a walker prior to my hip surgery. I informed Barbara of the situation, and she put us up in an accessible groundfloor room in the annex which was very suitable. As it turned out, Gordon had just had similar surgery, which was successful, so he shared his experiences with me and offered encouragement, which I appreciated greatly.

Writing this review makes me want to go back right away. I couldn't recommend Leasow House more highly. The latest rates listed are from £63 to £75 for double/twin en suite rooms, with a £10 reduction for most rooms from October through February (holidays excepted). The Leasow House has received 4 diamonds from both AA and Visit Britain, from which it also received a Silver Award.
