Galway: Villa Maria B&B

When: September 2008

A nice B&B, nice rooms, friendly landlady, 20 minute or so walk from Galway city center.

We found this B&B from the Republic of Ireland Tourist Office in Belfast. The Tourist Office did not charge a fee and were very extremely helpful.

The B&B is very nice, rooms were good size and bright, bathrooms very nice, TV, hair dryer, full breakfast. Mrs. Tiernan was helpful with good recommendations and was accommodating about the time we ate breakfast and getting cabs for us.

The rooms had good heaters, but when my brother-in-law came in chilled, she brought in an extra space heater and had him keep it the rest of the visit (weather was chilly, windy and rainy most of the time). It was a bit of a walk from city center but not so long that it was a problem; when we had to meet an early tour, we took a taxi.

I could not find a web site for them, but several booking sites do list them. There are a number of other B&B's in the same general area. Price: £50/single/night -- £70/double/night. We would definitely recommend it. There was parking for guests with a car.
