Behind the plain store-front of First Coast is a calm, modern decor, accommodating waitstaff and some of the best gourmet tastes served up in Edinburgh.

First Coast is unassuming from the outside. In fact, if we hadn't been staying in a nearby apartment complex we may have missed it all together. That would have been a big loss as it was by far the best restaurant we ate at in Edinburgh during our 10 day stay.

Once you step over the threshold you begin to realize this is a special eating establishment. The decor reflects its name. The walls are a tranquil blue and white and the overall decor is clean, calm and modern. The wait staff is friendly, accommodating.

The menu is continental eclectic, if there is such a food classification. One member of our party had the Thai marinated chicken salad and loved it. I cannot stress enough the freshness of the food. You would swear the chef was in the back garden plucking the rocket just before placing it on your plate. My husband moaned over Confit of Pork Belly, mashers with pork sauce. Delicious! Another member of our party ordered the Lythe filet with creme' fraiche and roast potatoes. This mild fish was grilled to perfection. I ordered the Sweet Pea and Mint Risotto. It was so good, two nights later we all returned and I ordered it a second time. I am a cook and love to make risotto. There is a knack to achieving the perfect texture and First Coast had it mastered.

We shared two of the Sticky Toffee Puddings with Butterscotch sauce and cream. It was the best we had during our trip and we tried several. On our second trip we had the Chocolate Raspberry Yogurt Sandwich with Cherry Compote. By now you may be getting the idea of the type of delicacies First Coast produces.

It is more than worth the bus ride over to Dalry Road to try First Coast.
