Owned and operated by Nino himself, since 1980. Authentic and cozy and crowded and the best Italian in Berkshire.

Directions: Downtown Reading, just down the street from the Town Hall and around the corner from the Oracle Shopping Mall.

Before expansion, this was an especially crowded place. After expansion (doubled in size), it's still crowded! A testament to the quality and breadth in the menu, the crowds mean reservations are a must, unless you're eating solo.

Nino's menu has anything from pizza, pasta and fish (mussels, lobster, salmon, sole, shrimp ) to meat dishes, but I never had dessert and never asked, since portion control is not on the menu - he may not have Dolci on his menu because it is limited to whatever the cook comes up with for the day. The web page calls this a "ristorante pizzeria", whereas I call it a ristorante, because pizza is only one of a wide selection of dishes.

I have eaten at Nino's perhaps 6 or 7 times. I was surrounded by Italian Americans growing up and never had a "fusilli all'arrabbiata" that compares with Nino's. The shrimp (prawn) with garlic usually stops the room with the aroma - be sure your partner at least tastes it or you will be rejected for the rest of the evening.

Small but not cramped, Nino's looks rather traditional in terms of decor, but the food is plentiful and served with a smile. The prices are typical for this area of England (i.e. a little pricey), but not over the top. Whenever I'm in Reading, I'll go here...it's legit!
