Excellent South Indian vegetarian restaurant, with economical lunchtime specials. Great food, great prices.

Directions: Off Tottenham Court Road, near Tottenham Court Road or Goodge Street Tube stations. Also a 10 minute walk from the British Museum.

My husband was hunting for southern Indian vegetarian food like he's eaten in India, and was very happy at Sagar. The menu has many very interesting choices of starters, snacks, puri, dosa, uthappams (sort of a lentil flatbread with toppings) curries, rice and bread. Prices are very reasonable. We had the lunchtime thali, which started with a crispy vegetable fritter served with various chutneys and herb sauces. The Thali platter had a fresh pappadam, vegetable kebab, spicy mixed vegetable tomato-based curry, mild yogurt-based curry, dahl, raita, a rolled dosa, rice, chutney, and a dessert. Everything was delicious, fresh, and of varying tastes and textures. It's a tremendous deal for 4.95 pounds.

The restaurant has been newly renovated, and is simple and pleasant. Restrooms are down a steep stairway.
