Friendly staff and wonderful food

We walked up and down the main street in Clonakilty looking for a restaurant to eat at, we are both vegetarian, so we are always perusing window menus looking for options. The Malt Granary has several vegetarian options than seemed more innovative than the usual fare so we decided to eat there. We were given a window seat so we were able to look out on the main street and watch people walk briskly up and down the street, bundled against the cold.

We were very happy with our choice, the food was excellent, the staff was very helpful and the prices were reasonable (for Ireland), we both had a starter, a main course and shared a dessert for around 50 euro. During our meal the chef came out and spoke with us, telling us about his choices and ingredients, it added to the enjoyment of our meal.

We ordered a starter which included Halloumi cheese, or squeaky cheese which we were unfamiliar with, it actually squeaks when you eat it. Both our waitress and the chef were able to give us information on where to buy it and how to prepare this cheese, it was obvious they enjoyed what they did and had pride in the restaurant.

We were there mid week following a holiday weekend so the restaurant wasn't too full, but we enjoyed the atmosphere of the restaurant and the staff as well as the food. Definitely would return.
