When: 2006

'Probably' the oldest inn in Yorkshire. A chip-free zone! Excellent food.

Directions: Practically under the bridge in the centre. Park near the church.

This pub looks really old and has the plaque about being 'probably' the oldest pub in Yorkshire. The 'probably' relates to uncertainty about whether a pub listed in the 14th century was actually on the same site - but the present buildings dating from the 16th century will do me.

Every evening, and for weekend lunches there's a good choice of dishes with vegetarian options. Weekday lunches are a set price for soup, carvery (or one vegetarian option), pudding and coffee.

I forget the price but you'll have all your arms and legs left when you leave.

There's also a good choice of real ales.
