2bed apartment in Dublin, Ireland WhenSeptember 2004, 3 days LocationThis apartment was perfectly located in the heart of Dublin, only a few blocks from Trinity College, St. Stephens Green and Grafton Street. The location is the single best feature of these apartments, because they are so central, yet on a quiet back street behind a church away from the traffic and noise. Nearby AmenitiesThere were a couple of very nice cafes just a block away, a couple of large supermarkets (including Marks and Spencer) within just a few blocks, and dozens of restaurants. The House/ApartmentAlthough the building was not new, I doubt that it is historical. It was in very good condition and our apartment appeared to have been renovated quite recently. I'm not sure, but I would guess there were a total of six or eight apartments on two floors. There was off-street parking, which I'm sure is rare in downtown Dublin, but we didn't have a car so we didn't use it. GardenNo outdoor area. Furnishings/Cleanliness/Living AreasFurnishings were IKEA or equivalent all the way, including the entire kitchen installation. There were three chairs for a very small and flimsy dining table, which worked OK for us because we were three, but the apartment sleeps four. Bedrooms/BathroomsThe beds and bedrooms were reasonably comfortable. There was only one bathroom. The plumbing was extremely noisy and there was a complicated and confusing method for controlling the hot water, which resulted in at least two cold showers. KitchenA basic set of cookware was provided. I don't think I would have been happy using this kitchen to cook anything but the most basic meals. We just did toast, coffee and cereal in the mornings and snacks in the afternoons. Our refrigerator quit mysteriously and defrosted itself once, and the dishwasher leaked when we ran it. My impression is that these appliances had just been installed and never tested because they seemed new. There was an electric kettle and tea bags and instant coffee was provided, and there was a new toaster. Agency and Representatives (and price)The management was very cordial and responsive to our problems with the hot water and waived the electricity charges because of the problems. We paid $200 a night for the two-bedroom apartment. I considered this a very good price for three people in the very center of the city. Do you recommend this vacation rental to others?I would recommend this apartment, only because the location just can't be beat. The beds were fine, and the rest of the IKEA furnishings were extremely cheap, but adequate. Once we got the hang of the plumbing and hot water, it was OK as well, although certainly not luxurious. Things to do in this areaIt's downtown Dublin: Trinity College, the National library and museums, shopping, the pubs. This review is the opinion of a Slow Travel member and not of slowtrav.com. |
