2bed/1bath cottage near Moreton-in-Marsh, Heart of England WhenNovember 2006, 1 week LocationSlatters Cottage is set in the beautiful village of Bourton-on-the-hill. Built completely in Cotswolds stone the village is very picture postcard. Although rather a busy road runs through the middle of the village, the cottage is set well away from the road and no traffic could be heard. It is a stones through from open countryside. Nearby AmenitiesAlthough the village did not have any amenities itself, it was a short walk of about 30 minutes into Moreton-in-Marsh which boasted some lovely gift shops as well as a supermarket and butcher and many very welcoming pubs and cafes. The House/ApartmentThe cottage is on the end of a terrace of three. All built in Cotswold stone, it is beautiful and I imagine, built at least a couple of centuries ago. There is a space to park outside and a nice little garden that is well maintained. The internal layout is lovely and functional. Downstairs is one open plan living/eating room and upstairs a double and a single bedroom and a bathroom. GardenThere is a garden to sit in outside at the front which is nice but not particularly private as next door's garden does look onto it. However, it would be a lovely place to sit and have a glass of wine on a summer's evening. Furnishings/Cleanliness/Living AreasInternally the house has recently been renovated and it was all in very good condition. The bathroom was new and very clean and the soft furnishings downstairs were of a very high standard. There was also some lovely additional touches such as a large selection of DVDs to watch and Games to play. Bedrooms/BathroomsThe beds were very comfortable and new and the bedrooms themselves were beautifully decorated and would not have looked out of place in a smart country hotel. Everything provided was extremely high quality (e.g., beds, hairdryer, lamps etc). Also enjoyed the extra touches such as shower caps, bath and shower gel and even shoe cleaning cloths. KitchenThe kitchen was functional and although small, had everything that was needed to created a good meal. In an ideal world it would be lovely to have a dishwasher but having said that, not sure that one would fit anywhere! Problems or BonusesNo problems, and bonuses included all the extras - for example, the little sachets of shampoo etc provided in the bathroom, and the games and DVDs downstairs, and also having a free-view box was a treat. Agency and Representatives (and price)Booked through the owner so no agency dealt with. However, we did think the cottage was exceptionally reasonably priced considering the high standard of accommodation. Do you recommend this vacation rental to others?I would definitely recommend this rental to others. If I am totally honest it is not ideal with a small walking child which we had with us because there are lots of small things for them to get their hands on and not that much room to run around but certainly for adults the cottage is ideal. It would also be fine if your child is younger and not yet getting around or older and a bit more sensible than ours! However, all in all it is a fantastic house in a brilliant location. Things to do in this areaLots of fantastic things to do in the area as the house is very centrally positioned right in the middle of the Cotswolds. It is perfect base for visiting lots of surrounding villages such as Broadway, Chipping Campden, Woodstock, Burford, Moreton-in-Marsh, Cheltenham, Stratford, etc. There are lots of lovely restaurants but we particularly enjoyed The Swan at Broadway.
