Studio apartment in South Kensington, London WhenFeb 2007, 1 week LocationOn a tree-lined street in Kensington, less than 10 minutes stroll (honestly, not even a fast walk ... just a stroll) to the Gloucester tube stop -- right around the corner from the V&A, Imperial College and Natural History Museum. Just a few minutes from Kensington Gardens and Hyde Park. Nearby AmenitiesWe used the Waitrose supermarket located right next to the Gloucester tube station quite a bit to pick up "quickie" snack type stuff, drinks, etc. Very convenient. The House/ApartmentThe building is one of those pretty white Victorian buildings that line the street -- gorgeous! The studio is on the ground floor facing the street but the noise wasn't a problem at all. And we never, ever heard the neighbors! The flat itself is small but perfect for the two of us. Just a really neat place to come to, especially after a *long* flight from the states. Very tastefully decorated. The windows in the living room were incredible and take a look at the murals on the ceiling! Loved the kitchen - had a great modern feel. Kitchen had everything one would need to cook a big dinner but we really just used the oven and microwave to heat things up a few times. I was surprised at how big the bathroom was for a studio. The bed in the loft was extremely comfortable - loved the duvet! The whole place was immaculate. Look at the photos on the site -- it looks EXACTLY like that in "real" life. Problems or BonusesThe owners were a great big bonus. An absolute pleasure to deal with. Friendly and efficient. Although we didn't get to meet them (they were on holiday when we "checked in") they had their housekeeper (again, so nice!) meet us with the keys. The location was also a definite bonus - residential but close to parks, restaurants, tube stops, etc. And if you are "in" to this kind of thing, we counted six Porsches on our short walk from the tube stop one evening, and there was a red Lamborghini parked outside the front door for most of our stay Do you recommend this vacation rental to others?Absolutely. And if I convince my significant other that a trip to Paris should be in our near future, I won't hesitate to use Paris Perfect, which I believe is also run by the same nice people. Things to do in this areaThere were a bunch of restaurants and cafes within a 10-minute walk. Da Mario's (Italian) was great and we loved Paul, a little bakery across from the Gloucester tube station. We found a little pub down on Gloucester (The Hereford Arms) that we thought was charming, too. As I mentioned before, you are just a short stroll to the park, V&A and Natural History Museum. Harrods and Knightsbridge is just a little longer. PS - RUN ... don't walk to the V&A. LOVED IT. This review is the opinion of a Slow Travel member and not of slowtrav.com. |
