Studio apartment in South Kensington, London WhenMarch 2007, 1 week LocationThe apartment is located in South Kensington on a somewhat main street. The street is not too noisy but there is some activity. I really liked the area. A nice mix between a city and a village feel. Nearby AmenitiesThe location was great because you are about a 3-5 minute walk from the Gloucester tube station. You are only a few minutes (by foot) from many restaurants and grocery stores. The House/ApartmentThere are about six or so other apartments in the building. It's a pretty old building (I'm assuming) and pretty nice. The apartment is very small but the set-up is done to perfection. There is a lot of storage, but if you carry a lot of luggage you'll definitely have some suitcases hanging in the living room. There is cable, DVD and radio. GardenNo garden. Furnishings/Cleanliness/Living AreasEverything in the apartment is new so it's very clean and comfortable. No more than two people should stay in this apartment. Even though there is a couch bed, the apartment is just too small for another person. Two is just fine, but no more. Bedrooms/BathroomsThe bed is super comfortable. I NEVER sleep in on vacation but I just couldn't help it with this bed! The bathroom was very clean and they actually have shampoo, shower gel, lotion, etc. The only problem was the shower didn't drain properly. I never called them. It didn't bother me enough to take the time. KitchenThe kitchen is great. They have everything you need for cooking. We didn't cook but if we wanted to it had anything we would need. The apartment has a washing machine, no dryer. Problems or BonusesThe bonuses with this apartment is all of the "extras" you get ... plenty of towels, blankets, pillows (extra pillows in the closet), drying rack, shampoo, lotion, etc. They also had guide books, magazines, movies and a list of all important numbers on the wall. I didn't expect all of that. I almost rented from another company that didn't offer any of the above. They told me I was on my own once I got to the apartment so it was so nice to feel more like I'm at a hotel but still in an apartment. The one surprise negative was that I expected to be greeted by the owner only because they were super friendly during the renting process. They actually told me they would greet me when we arrived to make sure all is well. But I never saw them. But it was no big deal. I don't think I would've been greeted by anyone else either. The apartment was too nice to care about a greeting. Agency and Representatives (and price)I was actually given a key by the driver. They give you a name of a recommended driver from the airport, which we used. He was great. He picked us up in his car (some sort of large Mercedes, very clean) and drove us right to the apartment after stopping to pick up the key. He spoke English and talked to us while he drove, we talked about Bush and Blair and the areas that we drove through. We came from Gatwick airport, we paid him £70. The apartment looks just like the pictures online. No difference. The size will surprise you (especially if you're traveling from Texas!) but it works very well. We paid $1541 for six nights. We negotiated the price because we weren't staying the full seven nights. We basically split the cost of the seventh night (we paid half price for night seven) because there is a seven night minimum stay. Do you recommend this vacation rental to others?I would definitely stay here again. Actually anytime I go back to London, if I'm staying at least seven nights this is where I will stay. I really hate that there is a seven night minimum stay because when I go for say three or four days I would like to stay here. Things to do in this areaWe actually didn't eat anywhere around us because I had an eating guide where all of the places I wanted to go were not in the neighborhood. But there are plenty of places to eat. I did go to Tesco and Marks & Spencer (grocery stores) for food. Beware, Marks & Spencer is pricey but very nice with pretty good food.
