2bed/2bath cottage in village near Chipping Campden, Cotswolds, Heart of England
WhenJune/July 2007, 3 weeks LocationSansome Cottage was an absolutely lovely cottage in the northern Cotswolds in the charmingly tiny town of Ilmington. The Cottage, located off of the same driveway as Sansome House, exceeded our expectations. It was beautiful, charming, clean, private, large, warm and inviting. Nearby AmenitiesThe cottage is a short walk to the town's general store, and a very short drive to many of the Cotswold's most beautiful towns. Getting to a supermarket, pub, or shopping was very easy, but at the same time we felt like we were staying in a bucolic setting. Besides the general store (good for stamps, magazines, or quick supplies) pretty much everything in the Cotswolds is a drive, or a good walk, away. There were plenty of beautiful walks and hiking trails nearby. We were also a short walk away from the town's playground. The House/ApartmentSansome Cottage is an antique cottage, in excellent shape, retaining much of its old charm. It was extremely peaceful and quiet (except for calls of many birds--really lovely!). Both of the bedrooms were upstairs, with one full bathroom (with bathtub) upstairs, and a second bathroom (with shower) downstairs. The master bedroom has a sink en-suite, and there is a large kitchen and living room downstairs. This is the only rental property as part of Sansome House. GardenThe Cottage does have a lovely, very private backyard garden. It is small, but large enough for a grill, an outdoor eating area, and it is landscaped so nicely. Very private, very sweet. Furnishings/Cleanliness/Living AreasGreat furniture, great beds, very comfortable, inviting and warm. The Cottage was spotlessly clean. There were plenty of chairs and seating everywhere. Bedrooms/BathroomsBeds--very comfortable! Nice bedrooms. Our daughters loved their bedroom. Plenty of bathroom space with updated bathrooms. KitchenVery usable kitchen--we used it for meals (breakfast and dinner) every day for three weeks. Very easy to use and get around. Has everything ... oven, microwave, fridge, stove, tea kettle ... you name it. The kitchen also has a nice, large pantry for storage. Problems or BonusesThe owner was a delight! Agency and Representatives (and price)We found the listing originally through Holiday Lettings but the website above is Sansome's Cottage direct website. Do you recommend this vacation rental to others? Not only would we stay here again, but we would recommend this cottage to our friends. In fact, we have recommended this cottage to our friends, and we hope to return one day. Things to do in this areaEndless ... eating, shopping, antiquing, walking, hiking, biking, sight-seeing, horse back riding, theatre, etc. This review is the opinion of a Slow Travel member and not of slowtrav.com. |
