5bed/3.5bath house near Mullinahone, Tipperary, Ireland WhenSept 2008, long weekend LocationThis renovated stone house was situated in the countryside maybe 2 km from a village down a little country lane at the foot of the Slievenamon mountain. It felt like we were in the heart of a real hidden Ireland. Nearby AmenitiesIt's a necessity to have a car to really enjoy this place. Situated five minutes drive from Mullinahone, which is a very traditional Irish village with pubs and small stores but no restaurants. The property is 20 minutes drive from medieval Kilkenny with fab little shops , Kilkenny Design store, great pubs and restaurants, along with one of the finest castles in Ireland. The House/ApartmentSitting in a green valley is a 200 year old stone house farm house beautifully restored by its owners. For a stone house it was very warm and comfortable, little touches such as a stained glass tiny windows, big log fire. There is a main house which sleeps 12 and a wee barn which sleeps two. The setting is on a farm with a stream and bridge flowing through it. GardenThere is a sun trap out the back of the property with a large bench and table with barbecues and great view of the mountain. There are plenty of walks; it is possible to walk up into the mountains from the property. Alongside stands a big barn with a table tennis table. Furnishings/Cleanliness/Living AreasThe house had lots of space for our large group to spread out. Large table for everyone to sit together. Everything felt relatively new, fresh and good quality. Bedrooms/BathroomsBedrooms were a variety of shapes and sizes. One downstairs bedroom was wheelchair friendly and had an en suite bath. There were four bathrooms (I think). KitchenThe kitchen had everything including a dishwasher. Problems or BonusesI was delighted the house had a real warmth with fresh cut flowers from the garden. It was off the beaten track. Agency and Representatives (and price)The people who own this property live close by. They were a wealth of information on the area and genuinely helpful, without being intrusive. They speak English and German. Do you recommend this vacation rental to others?I would definitely stay here again. I would recommend the house and barn for a large family group who enjoy the outdoors, log fires and peace and quiet. The place was ideal for kids to run wild and be safe. We came away feeling we had discovered a real gem. Things to do in this areaA trip to Kilkenny is a must, as is trip to Cashel.
