2bed/1bath house in Blockley, Heart of England When15th to 21st August 2008, one week LocationArreton Cottage is in the small village of Blockley in Northern Cotswold close to Moreton in Marsh and Chipping Campden. The cottage is next to the family mansion, which also runs as a bed-and-breakfast. It is self contained and independent but Gloria is right next door if you need anything. The area exudes a 'back-home-to-the cottage' feeling and within a day you feel as if you are back home after your outings. The location and Blockley has a very relaxing feel. Nearby AmenitiesThe pub was across the street, a big plus for us as we like to linger over dinner and people watch the locals after dinner pub visit and talk to them and not have to drive back home. We had dinner at the pub several times, very reasonably priced too. There is a village store round the corner, across the greens where you can pick up essentials including milk, bread and fresh baked goodies. The larger grocery store is in Moreton in Marsh, which would be a pleasant walk, but not if you also have to carry grocery back and not in the wet summer we had in 2008. We drove... There is another pub in town further up the main street. The House/ApartmentThe cottage is the old outhouse (stables, gardeners etc.) that has been converted into one cottage and a room for rent next door. The main house/B&B is across a garden and separate enough. The cottage is compact and nice for four adults as we were; it does say it can sleep six with another pull sofa chair bed, but I would not recommend it; the living area is cozy for four and the dining area tight... The pictures on the website are accurate; what you see is what you get. You can view the property directly: Arreton Cottage. GardenBeautiful gardens and sitting area outside. We did not get to use it much as it was a wet summer. You can also dry your clothes outside if the weather is good. This would be a very good alternative to the dryer in the cottage if the weather would cooperate. The dryer was not very cooperative especially with jeans; since it was wet and we still insisted on doing the trails we did have muddy clothes to wash and had to dry them at the fire place overnight. Furnishings/Cleanliness/Living AreasThe cottage was clean; the furniture in good shape and fits with the style of the cottage. Seating arrangements were good for four. Would have been tight for six. Again the pictures on the website are a good representation. Bedrooms/BathroomsBedrooms/beds were nice and comfortable. The bathroom upstairs was large by English standards; the cloak room downstairs (WC/small basin) was a good backup. KitchenThe kitchen was very usable and had ample supply. We did not cook full meals but if you wanted to you could. Problems or BonusesThe pub across the street was a big bonus as was the village store round the corner. The whole locations was ideal for morning walks, after dinner walks and for day trips. We had a problem with the WiFi which works off and on (the owners said it was a work in progress) but the LAN was excellent and when we lost connectivity it was fixed immediately. Internet access was remarkably good as was cell phone reception. Agency and Representatives (and price)I worked both with Campden Cottages and directly with Gloria the owner and both were very pleasant and easy to work with. Since I has already contacted Campden Cottages, I booked through them. You can also book directly with Gloria but she is not setup to send payment via credit card. Gloria responded promptly to e-mails. Do you recommend this vacation rental to others?Certainly recommend it; very relaxing area. Great walking trails. The cottage has an excellent collection of details of trails etc. Things to do in this areaIdeal central location for North Cotswold, Oxford and Stratford-Upon-Avon. All the touristy Cotswold villages are close by and you can go after the tour buses have left. The cottage is ideal just for relaxing too. Apart from all the gardens etc. there is a Falconry close by that children will love. We grown ups loved it too. The market day in Moreton-in Marsh was excellent.
