2bed/2bath apartment in Brompton, London

When

December 2009, 5 nights

Location

The Harrod's flat is off a quiet side street (Egerton Gardens) from the bustle of Brompton Road, about two blocks from the Victoria and Albert Museum and four blocks or so from Harrods. The flat is below street level, but it still is a bright apartment on a street of flats that are at most three stories tall. Across the street from the entrance of the apartment is a grassy area, and out the back door (a door in the master bedroom) is a garden courtyard area for all of the apartments on the block. The location is great for shopping, visiting museums, catching the tube, catching a bus -- it was perfectly situated for us.

Nearby Amenities

Grocery stores can be found a couple of blocks away -- there's a Marks and Spencer's and a Sainsbury's local. Both were adequate for all of our shopping. As well, you can shop at the Harrod's food hall. Restaurants abound in this area.

The House/Apartment

To enter the apartment, you must go down a set of somewhat steep steps to get to the lowest level of the building. The front door opens to an entry hall where you can leave your shoes and hang your coat. Another door opens into the apartment proper, keeping out the cold (we were there in snowy December).

The heart of the flat is the living area, which is exactly as the pictures on the website show. There is a large and comfortable sofa and love-seat as well as a comfortable chair in the living area, along with a medium sized TV. By the bay window is the dining area with ample seating space for a family of four. Adjacent to the living area is the narrow but ample kitchen (see the LGS website for an accurate video tour of the apartment).

A door also separates the living area from the sleeping areas and bathrooms; the first bathroom is directly on the left as you head down the hall; on the right is a closet with the washer and dryer in it; a bedroom with two twin beds is next; turning along the hall you have the master bath on the left and the master bedroom on the right.

Garden

A door in the master bedroom leads to the shared garden area that had a small table and two chairs, but we did not venture out the door as it was cold!

Furnishings/Cleanliness/Living Areas

All of the furniture in all of the rooms was comfortable and in good shape. We always had enough seating for the four of us, and we were never bothered by outside noises. There were some cracks in the plaster walls, but they didn't bother me -- I just happened to notice them.

Bedrooms/Bathrooms

All of the beds were comfortable, and it was great to have two bathrooms. The kids used the one that had a shower/tub combination, and we used the one that had a shower separate from the tub. Both bathrooms had heated towel racks and sufficient lighting. The bathrooms were both very large although the shower in the master bath was a little small (but not the smallest we've ever had!).

Kitchen

The kitchen was narrow yet workable. There is a full-sized stove and oven, a full-sized refrigerator, a dishwasher, and great dishes, cookware, and utensils. We cooked all of our meals here and never had a problem.

Problems or Bonuses

The apartment was wonderfully located, quiet, and had WiFi enabled, which helped tremendously. We were comfortable and had no problems during our stay.

Agency and Representatives (and price)

London Guest Suites is actually related to London Connection -- we dealt with LGS, which is located in California, and we noticed that the book with all the information about the apartment was from London Connection. At any rate, the people at LGS were great to work with -- prompt in their replies on the phone and via email, and very helpful in showing us the apartment once we arrived. We got a good deal, we think, during Christmas (December 18-24), paying $395 per day (lower than the even the posted special). We had never worked with LGS before, but we would definitely consider them if we rented another flat in London -- they had lots of great looking flats to choose from!

Do you recommend this vacation rental to others?

We would definitely stay here again. The flat was large, very comfortable, and suited every need we had.

Things to do in this area

Very close by are the Victoria and Albert Museum, the Natural History Museum, Harrod's, and Hyde Park. Great location!
