We enjoyed our stay in this nice B&B set in a residential neighborhood just a couple of blocks from State Street in Santa Barbara. Rooms ranged in price from $175 to $215 plus a suite at $270. We stayed in Susan's Loft which had a balcony facing the Santa Ynez mountains, a queen bed, Jacuzzi tub, and gas fire. The room was cozier (i.e., smaller) than it appeared in the web site photos plus it was clear that the bathroom features were added on later because the sloping, loft ceiling affected standing at the toilet and in the tub. There was a Jacuzzi tub with hand held shower like a European tub. The bed was comfortable and we slept well. Our room was in the "Summer House" which was separate from the main house. Between the main house and Summer House was a deck where breakfast was served. It was lovely sitting there in the mid-February sunshine (especially since we had left snow and ice behind in Virginia). There was also room to eat in the house. Breakfast each day consisted of fresh fruit, homemade granola with yogurt or lowfat milk, and a main course. While we were there, we had French Toast stuffed with cream cheese and peaches, an egg florentine casserole, and a cinnamon french toast casserole topped with fresh peaches. Service was friendly and gracious. Each afternoon there were cakes, cookies, lemonade, and tea available. The cakes were delicious. At 5:30, they served wine with cheese and crackers. Given how close we were to wine country, I was a little disappointed in the quality of the wine. Later in the evening when we returned from dinner, the cakes and cookies were available again for dessert. The owners and staff at Bath Street Inn were uniformly friendly, gracious and helpful. They gave us good advice on restaurants and sights to see. This review is the opinion of a Slow Travel member and not of slowtrav.com. |
