Small hotel in the center of Sonoma. Lovely rooms with full kitchens.
We spent a few nights here in September 2005 and loved this hotel. There are five bungalows available by the night, week or month. There is daily maid service and a simple (very simple) breakfast is left for you outside your door each morning.
We were in Hamilton's Bungalow, which is on two levels - kitchen, dining area, living room on the main level, then stairs up to a bathroom and bedroom. The bedroom was loft like and somewhat open to the room below, so this unit is best for one couple.
The woman who runs the hotel is very nice. She let us drop off our luggage early in the morning because we arrived before checkin time. We did not cook anything other than breakfast in the kitchen, but you could cook meals here. Some basics were left in the fridge and the fabulous Sonoma Market in a few blocks away.
My only complaint (and this is half-hearted) is the breakfast. Fresh fruit is left in the room for you, along with coffee, a coffee maker, butter and jam. In the morning, a breakfast is left in a basket that hangs by your door, but it consists of just one pastry or a yogurt (changes each day). If you want a more serious breakfast (like toast), be sure to pickup something at the Sonoma Market (they have EXCELLENT bagels there - we even brought some home).
We paid around $200 per night, which is normal for a good hotel room in Sonoma.
Sonoma is a wonderful place to spend a few nights or a few weeks. We always have a great time when we visit this area, and we are not "wine people". We go for the sunshine, the hiking trails, and the charm of this small town. It is a quick 45 minute drive over to Mill Valley and the Muir Woods in Marin.
