We had never been to San Diego and were planning to spend just two nights. The famous Hotel Del Coronado was tempting, but costly. Our local friends recommended the Glorietta Bay Inn. Great choice! It too was costly, but not AS costly - and it was right across the street from the grand old beauty. Our room was large and comfortable, with a fine small balcony. We did not choose to stay in the old mansion section, but instead opted for one of their contemporary rooms "with a view." The view was probably more parking lot than ocean/boats, but still it was fine. The breakfast was nothing special, but still a pleasant and great way to start the day in a lovely setting. We certainly felt that it was money well spent, and that it was an excellent choice. Had the weather been warmer, we would have used their pool. But we were happy to bundle up and walk on the fabulous Coronado beach. We also enjoyed drinks over at "The Del." Coronado's downtown shopping / eating area was an effortless stroll - wonderful location. Coronado in general was a great place to be, and the old architecture - residential and commercial - was a pleasant surprise. We drove to Balboa Park and the zoo in about 15 minutes, so it is a convenient place to be if you want to explore San Diego's attractions. I think we will go back sometime, and we will wish for warmer and sunnier weather to enjoy that beach. This review is the opinion of a Slow Travel member and not of slowtrav.com. |
