Well-located, reasonably priced San Francisco hotel with style.

For years, I've been looking for a San Francisco hotel that I'm happy enough with to return to. Everything is either too expensive, too snooty, too shabby, mind-numbingly boring, or so trendy it just seems silly. Finally, I found the Palomar, which is just right.

The location is good, just off Market at 4th, a block from a Bart station, 2 or three blocks to SFMOMA and just a few blocks to Union Square. The hotel, in an older building nicely restored, starts on the 5th floor, and the windows are sealed so it's surprisingly quiet.

The rooms are larger than I expected, stylish and comfortable. A real closet with real hangers, nice linens, Aveda toiletries (my fav), lots of little comfort touches and friendly and responsive service all impressed me.

We got a AAA rate of $170, which I think is very reasonable for San Francisco.
