This is a charming, tasteful bed and breakfast situated in the heart of the Mansion District. It is not "cutesy" but, instead, captures the flavor of its heyday.

The Ivy Lodge is a wonderful place to stay when visiting Newport. We preferred its location to those places by the waterfront--which is the heart of the tourist hustle and bustle. Because Newport is small, it is a very short drive to the waterfront--or if ambitious, you could even walk it.

The innkeepers are accommodating; the sumptuous breakfasts are prepared by a chef and you are given choices; the rooms are beautifully appointed and the amenities are good quality. We enjoyed the wrap around porch where even on the very hot days we could sit and enjoy a cooling breeze. Because of its location, it is very quiet and serene--just perfect for a get away from the cares of life.

We had one of the smaller rooms--the Magnolia room--on the third floor. We really liked it and would not opt for the larger more expensive, ornate rooms; although that is what we would have booked if they had been available. We had a nice window expanse which made the room light and airy. All rooms are air-conditioned which can be very important and was when we were there.

Prices range from mid $200's to $395 a night. The Ivy Lodge has been mentioned in several travel magazines and is highly recommended by Frommer's.
