West Hollywood: Le Montrose Suite Hotel

Relaxed, cool comfort off the Sunset Strip.

I fell in love with this hotel.

Tucked away on a small street in West Hollywood, Le Montrose Suite Hotel was fun, funky and full of L.A. style and kitsch.

Every room is suite, and mine was a lovely split-level open plan, with a huge dressing room and bathroom, a beautiful kiing-sized bedroom with the biggest TV I have ever seen. A few steps out and down puts you in the full-sized living room with a big, comfy couch and armchair, armoire with another TV, DVD player and stero. There was gas fireplace, too! Next to it was a large writing desk for my computer, with internet hook-up. The suite rounded out with a small kitchenette and round dining table, and a cute patio with chairs and a table. The furniture and lighting fixtures were all chic and funky, and the fabrics were fun – large polka dots, pretty satin sheen and velvet trims.

There is a fantastic roof-top pool and a bar, where you can lounge around and sip cocktails and live out any Hollywood, rock-star fantasies you may have been harboring (I didn’t know I was until I got there).

The best bonus: a coin operated laundry room in the adjacent garage, accessible by the hotel elevator and very convenient. This is a boutique hotel for sure, but not fancy – just comfortable, swingin’, slightly swanky fun, and the prices were surprising - I think my room was $217 per night, which was a bargain for all of the amenities and space.

The staff was super nice and helpful to an L.A. newbie.

The hotel is right off of Sunset Strip, and there are some great stores within walking distance, including one of the best independent bookstores I have ever visited, Book Soup. Don’t miss the Hollywood Farmer’s Market, off of Ivar Avenue, especially on Sunday morning, where a parade of serious foodies, strolling families, hip singles, movie stars in sunglasses and baseball caps and the occasional drag queen all mix and mingle while buying seriously good produce, local foods, and great market buys.
