A peaceful, environment-friendly hotel, away from the bustle.
Located in a more residential neighborhood of Santa Monica, this hotel offers a peaceful respite, including a beautiful Japanese garden in the center courtyard.
Rooms are large, with Egyptian cotton linens, very comfy mattresses and pillows, Mission-themed furniture and decor throughout. Large and modern bathroom, great water pressure, with all amenities, and a "green" consciousness for toiletries and being "sustainable"-aware guests.
Free wi-fi, free underground parking, and free continental breakfast daily, with delicious breads and pastries (many homemade) and fresh fruit, make this hotel a wonderful choice when staying in SM.
Free shuttle is offered to the beach and shopping districts, although we did not utilize it. A workout room is on the premises for guests. This lovely extremely clean hotel priced $50/nite cheaper than the least expensive hotels near the waterfront that I surveyed. Highly recommend and would stay here again.

A green hotel with great rooms, buffet breakfast and location. Free wi-fi, breakfast and parking.
My husband and I spent a week at The Ambrose. We booked online through their website to get a reduced rate.
Room: Our room had a comfortable king bed with wonderful linens. Our balcony wrapped around two sides. The bathroom was large and modern. Closet space was in a wardrobe, with two compartments that flanked the TV cabinet. The room walls could be a bit more soundproofed if there are loud neighbors. Otherwise, it was a great room.
Breakfast: A free buffet breakfast was served daily. It consisted of fresh pastries (croissants, muffins, etc.), fresh fruit (strawberries during our stay), cereals/granola, fresh juices, coffee and tea. The buffet was laid out in the downstairs lobby with plenty of comfortable chairs. Some chairs were by a fireplace, some around tables, others were outside on the patio in the garden with a water feature. We appreciated this convenience and quality.
Parking: Parking was free in a secure, underground garage.
Wi-fi: Free wi-fi was provided, with password given at check-in.
Staff: Very courteous and helpful. There is a London Cab with a driver who will take you for free down to 3rd Street Promenade. We used the car on several occasions, including picking us up after dinner. We tipped our driver. We never waited more than 10 minutes to get a ride.
Location: The hotel is located out of the fray of Los Angeles in a quiet neighborhood. There is a hospital beside the hotel, but ambulances cut their sirens just before getting to the hospital, so it wasn't a problem during our stay. Those who love to walk a mile or so (like us) can walk to the Promenade or to the beach.
Complaint: The only thing that I didn't like is minor. The Aveda Rosemary shampoo and conditioner absolutely dried out my hair. There is a Walgreens as well as salons within a few minutes' walk, so you can go purchase a more suitable product.
