Convenient location for NYC sight seeing

We stayed at the Roosevelt Hotel so we would be in the same hotel as my in-laws when they briefly visited NYC from Scotland.

They chose the Roosevelt as part of a package that the Queen Mary cruise line offered as a NYC hotel option before they cruised back to the UK. I am not sure I would have stayed here otherwise as I generally don't like big hotels. And this hotel is very big, 1,015 rooms!

The major problem I encountered with staying in such a large hotel was that we were always waiting for an elevator.

Other than elevator issues, it was a nice enough hotel with comfortable beds, quiet rooms, wireless internet hook-up and a nice bathroom. Not particularly charming but absolutely fine for our needs. There was no fridge/bar in the room if that's important to you. The staff was very nice and helpful.

The best thing about this hotel is its great location; just steps away from Grand Central and close to shopping, Broadway and most of the main tourist sights. For a Sunday night stay in June, we paid $225 plus tax, a pretty good deal for this location. However, depending on the season, the same room can go for $300 to $419 which I feel is very overpriced for this hotel.

So - if you can stay here at a special rate, it's a good deal, otherwise I think you can do better.
