Located on the Upper West Side, just steps away from Central Park, the Westside YMCA offers clean, cheap rooms. You can't beat the price or the location.

As we all know, hotels in New York can be very expensive. The Westside YMCA Guestrooms on West 63rd Street offers a great alternative for the budget traveler. My friend and I stayed in a double room (with bunk beds) and shared baths. However, "shared baths" did not mean communal baths, instead there was a row of individual bathrooms with a toilet, a sink, and a large shower. The bathrooms were spotlessly clean and comfortable. We used the room key card to enter the bathrooms as well.

The room itself was definitely on the spartan side (think tiny dormroom) but functional: a bunk bed with relatively comfortable mattresses, a tiny desk, a small closet, and an air conditioner window unit. We could even see a slice of Central Park from our window!

The location is GREAT. The YMCA is located on West 63rd Street and Central Park Avenue, literally less than a minute from Central Park. It is a clean, beautiful area that is filled with good restaurants, cafees, etc. There is also a small grocery store just a block away. Subway and bus stops are close by as well. I enjoyed staying there so much and we tried several restaurants around the corner, such as Sushi A-Go-Go. (Since the hostel is cheap, we could afford good food!)

A double room with shared bathrooms was $88 a night. According to their website, the prices range from $72-$89 with shared bath to $105-$140 with private bath.
