Pauline's List of New York City stores

Near Union Square

ABC Carpet & Home, 888 Broadway @ E.19th. www.abchome.com Six floors of exotic home furnishings, antiques, fabrics (2nd floor), carpets. An amazing store. Lots of imported things: napkins and towels from France, blankets from Italy. Rows of fancy pillows on the main floor.

Fishs Eddy, 889 Broadway @ E.19th. Inexpensive but interesting dishes.

Village

Balducci's, 6th Avenue north of Houston. Great Italian food store.

Soho

Dean and Deluca, Broadway south of Houston. Fabulous food store.

Zona, 97 Greene. Household furnishings.

Waterworks, 469 Broome. Upscale bathroom fixtures, tubs, etc. This is a small chain of stores in cities in the US.

Stone, 111 Greene. Strange stone related household things.

Kate's Paperie, 8 West 13th (near Union Square) or 561 Broadway (in Soho). Paper, ribbons and things.

Global Table, 107 Sullivan. Pottery from around the world. Japanese style.

Midtown

Felissimo, 10 W 56th. Household things - everything too expensive, but an interesting store to walk through.

Upper East Side

Mackenzie-Childs, 824 Madison. The strangest store I have ever seen. Worth it just to look at their displays of plates, household things. But who buys this stuff?

Tender Buttons, 143 East 62nd @ Lexington. The button store - maybe the best button store in the country. There is an excellent button store in Vancouver, Canada.

Pierre Deux, 870 Madison. French fabrics and things made from them.
