Map of Canada
British Columbia: Main cities are Victoria, on Vancouver Island - a large island off the coast - and Vancouver, on the mainland. Gulf islands are between Vancouver and Vancouver Island. Lush rain forest on the coast, dryer farmland inland and Rocky Mountains in the eastern part of the state. Everyone loves Vancouver - a great place to visit. Good restaurants, lots of nice outdoors things to do.
Alberta: Main cities are Calgary and Edmonton. Western part of the province is in the Rocky Mountains, with mountain/ski towns of Banff and Jasper. Eastern part is prairie.
Saskatchewan: Main cities are Regina and Saskatoon. The province is mostly prairie.
Manitoba: Main city is Winnipeg. This province is prairie in the west and lakes/forest in the west.
Ontario: Main city is Toronto. Northern and western Ontario is lakes and forest (and Algonquin Park). Southern Ontario, on Lake Ontario and Lake Erie is more like New England in the US - historical small towns and gorgeous countryside.
Quebec: Montreal and Quebec City are the main cities. French is the first language spoken in many parts of Quebec. Many say this province has a more "European" feel than the rest of Canada. Beautiful towns and countryside in southern Quebec.
New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island (PEI), Nova Scotia: The provinces east of Quebec are collectively called the Maritimes. New Brunswick, PEI and are similar geographically. Charming towns, lots of coast.
Newfoundland and Labrador: The eastern most province consisting of the island of Newfoundland and Labrador on the mainland. The island of Newfoundland has wide open spaces, small trees, a kind of bleak landscape, and interesting coastal towns.
Territories: Nunavut, Northwest Territories and Yukon in the north.
