An upscale restaurant with attentive service featuring Pacific Island cuisine and a signature Pineapple Upside Down Cake.

Directions: Overlooking the Bay Golf Course in Kapalua, Maui

We thoroughly enjoyed a birthday lunch at the Pineapple Grill. There is a full bar with tropical drinks but we chose from the "wines by the glass" area.

My guest, who must avoid gluten, was delighted with the daily special, a grilled fish atop an herbed quinoa and side veggies. Being warned by a friend that the pineapple upside down cake was not to be missed, I chose the ahi tuna appetizer for my main. It was perfect, squares of rare ahi lightly seared and served with a wasabi aioli and several other interesting flavors.

The signature dessert included the most delicious pineapple I tasted during over two weeks in Maui and was topped with coconut macadamia nut ice cream--a large portion that could easily be shared. My friend found the sorbet trio to be a lovely finish to a delicious lunch.

The restaurant is open for lunch and dinner every day. As everywhere in Maui, dress is definitely casual. Lots of golfers at lunch. It is a bit tricky to find but our GPS got us there smoothly, and once in the area there are signs directing you to the restaurant. Our tab for the two courses plus a glass of wine each was about $60.
