Directions: Exit Highway 1 at Pescadero Road. Follow it to Stage Road, and turn left. Duarte's is at the corner. (Directions also on website.) I've lived in the SF Bay Area all my life, and never went to Duarte's until 2007. But I've been back many times since! If you want the best soup EVER, order the "half and half" - half cream of artichoke and half green chile soup. I could eat it every day. The hot sourdough bread brought to the table with butter is perfect for dipping. Their crab sandwiches are delicious - sliced sourdough bread stuffed full with crab. The calamari appetizer is tasty; tiny calamari rings and tentacles lightly battered and deep fried. Onion rings are also good - more like doughnut ring size, though! If you have room after your meal (good luck!) their ollalieberry pie is Excellent. Worst case, you should order a piece (or two) "to go." You'll thank me later. This place is always busy. Plan to put your name on a list and return in 20-40 minutes for a table. Pescadero is basically one main street, but has some interesting antique, garden, and interior decor shops. You can buy artichoke-garlic sourdough bread at the market there! Duarte's is a large building with several connected dining rooms, and a small dining counter with stools in the back. There's a full bar in one room, too. I've heard good things about their Bloody Marys. :D Hearty portions sizes are great to share. Lunch is about $35/person (with non-alcoholic drink) without tip.
