Friendly organic café: pizzas, falafel and ice cream.
Mendocino is a gorgeous village; maybe some of it is just too picture-perfect! But Frankie's is nicely down to earth, serving reasonably priced food in an attractively informal space, with displays by local artists on the walls.
We were there for lunch; two of us opted for the pizzas. We were going to go for two different 10" ones, but they offered to do us a 14" with half-and-half toppings - a generous offer, since the 14"s are only just over 1˝ times the price of the 10"s, but (as the mathematicians among you will already have worked out) only a whisker short of double the surface area! And the pizza was excellent: good Neapolitan-style base, flavoursome toppings.
Philippa opted for the Falafel and salad: very good, oven-baked falafel with a nice variety of salad vegetables & leaves, and a creamy tahini dressing.
There's a good range of local beers in bottle (we went for North Coast's Scrimshaw lager, Anderson Valley's Poleeko Gold pale, and Bear Republic's Racer 5 IPA); quite a few Mendocino County wines on the list, too.
Good espressos to round the meal off. A thoroughly good experience!
