A charming and cozy French restaurant to enjoy after the theater.

Directions: Between 8th and 9th Ave.

There were six in our party. We arrived around 11:00 PM with one arriving closer to 11:15 PM. I think the kitchen closes at 11:30 so we had to order by that time. Once we ordered we were not rushed. From the street this restaurant didn't impress me but once we entered it was charming and I felt transported to a countryside restaurant in France. I loved the atmosphere and decor.

I enjoyed a glass of white bordeaux ($10.00). Le Rivage offers a $25.00 Prix Fixe dinner after 8:00 PM. For NYC you can't beat that price! (there is also a $22.00 Prix Fixe lunch).

The waitresses, while not over the top friendly, were very kind and gracious. I ordered the salad of frisee with hard boiled eggs and bacon. Simple and refreshing. As my main course I enjoyed Pork "Viennoise", breaded cutlet with capers and Madeira reduction. This was excellent.

The owner (I believe) was very nice and recommended the roasted duckling in orange sauce. My friend Debbie ordered this and said it was "heaven". For dessert I had chocolate mousse which was good, not outstanding. All in all everyone enjoyed their selections and we all agreed that we would return.

After a fun evening at the theater this is a relaxing place to have a few drinks and a filling meal for a very reasonable price.
