From soups, sandwiches and vegetarian platters to Schnitzel, Fondu, and Doggie meals, the menu offers many options. Come taste a bit of Switzerland in Carmel.

Directions: In the Barnyard, a lovely shopping area, off HWY1 between Carmel Valley Road and Rio Road. You can get there either way turning on to Carmel Rancho Blvd. and following the signs. There is plenty of parking. Lugano is in the North-East corner - under the windmill.

Lugano’s offers a full lunch, “lite” lunch, full dinner and “lite” dinner plus Fondu - five different ways and a Doggie menu with four choices available. You can check out the different menus here: Swiss Bistro website

We like eating lunches here, where we can sit outside on the small patio out front - at the bottom of a sloped brick pathway.

We find we always order the Swiss Onion Soup - $5.25, and then the Schnitzel - $13.50, which is a perfectly prepared pounded pork loin lightly breaded with lemon and capers on top. The last time we asked for a side of spaetzle and red cabbage - there was an extra charge for this - and well worth it.

With our lunch we order a bottle of white wine which they keep in a chiller of ice and a bottle of water. The bill comes somewhere around $70.00 plus tip.

The interior is pure Swiss. They offer music regularly - a couple of nights a week - and on Sundays there is what they call the “Sunday Matinee Show” from 1-4. (We have not experienced any of these, though we know some of the musicians and the music is fun.)

If you are out and about in Carmel, especially if you are shopping at The Barnyard stop in for a bite.
