Very good tapas with good service. Expensive? Oh, yes! But lots of fun and very very interesting flavors. We enjoyed it completely.

Directions: Right on Michigan Avenue, South Loop, housed with the Blackstone Hotel.

We went here on a sort of "staycation" and were willing to pay for this place as a special occasion treat. It is Catalan tapas - so we got to try a lot of different flavors, all interesting and beautifully plated.

Mercat de la Planxa was recommended on local restaurant review TV show "Check Please" and we'd wanted to go there ever since. It was lively, even early on a Tuesday evening, and a tad too noisy. Still it was quite friendly and welcoming. We popped for the chef's tasting menu, and we didn't know what we were getting till it came. That was a lot of fun, and very delicious. We left satiated and pleased with our experience.

This would be a fun place to go if you are in Chicago's Loop and want an interesting place, as opposed to a steak house.
