Directions: Hwy 1 and Rio Road, Carmel, Califonia. California cuisine with a twist to the southwest. Your taste buds will find a wonderful surprise in every bite. One of our favorite restaurants and a major player in the core group of restaurants we regularly go. Rio has been one of the most successful restaurants and bars, for over 20 years, in the Carmel area. On the weekends people are two/three deep trying to get in - I highly recommend making reservations. The bar is a very popular meeting place with ten stools at the bar and eleven two-top tables. If you can’t get a table in one of the six dining areas they serve the full menu bar-side. The total seating capacity including the lounge is 185. They serve lunch daily, dinner nightly and brunch on Sunday. They have wonderful fresh soups daily which we always look forward to. There is always a daily special starter, fish, pasta and meat dish along with an extensive regular menu. I often have the pumpkin encrusted salmon or the Grilled Prawns on Penne Pasta with a leek, pea and bacon Creole cream. The last time we were there-last week-I ordered the skirt steak which is marinated in a mustard-soy sauce, served with perfectly cooked green beans and a nice serving of yam gratin. Rob usually orders either the pork tenderloin or the blackened ribeye steak - which is a weekend special. They will also do a blackened prime-rib on some weekends. For dessert there is always the ice-cream sandwich. Two waffle cookies with a generous portion of homemade vanilla ice-cream drizzled with yummy chocolate garnished with fresh strawberries. Very yummy, very satisfying. They also have crème brulee, cakes and other delectable treats to choose from. The wine list is extensive and varied and mostly California wines. You can not go wrong with anything on the Rio Grill menu, in the Crossroads, Hwy 1 and Rio Road. Go and enjoy yourself! This review is the opinion of a Slow Travel member and not of slowtrav.com. |
