This restaurant is always hard to describe, but it is a local favorite. It has a fairly small menu, but they always have a special's board. And the desserts...oh. my. God. Some of my favorites are the guacamole tacos (served with rice and beans), the garlic-lemon calimari (deep fried and in rings, not patties), green chili and cheese tamales (also with rice and beans) and the mashed potato/green chili taquitos (unfortunately, I've only seen these once on the specials board). They also have huge burritos, tacos and tostados, and you can get these all with beef or chicken or fish or vegetarian style. Other frequent guests to the specials board are crab cakes, the carnitas platter and chorizo taquitos. Menu items are fairly cheap, $5-$10. The specials tend to run from $10-$20, and the fresh fish is expensive. However, the most important thing to remember at Taco Temple is save room for dessert! The desserts are made by one of the owners, Dawnelle, and they are awesome. There is always flan and carrot cake, which is a ginormous (you think I'm kidding, but I'm not) slice topped with brown sugar. There is usually some sort of cheesecake with a fresh fruit sauce. Sometimes there is chocolate bread pudding, served warm with fresh whipped cream, and not too sweet. In the fall, there is pumpkin bread pudding. Occasionally, there is tres leches cake. Once in awhile, there is even cambozola cheesecake. I have to admit, this is the only one we have tried that we don't like, although others rave about it. Desserts usually run about $5, and are totally worth it. Get a variety and share! Now for the quirks: The restaurant is small and located in the parking lot of a local grocery store. They recently expanded, but the acoustics are lousy and the place gets loud. Also, they will not seat you unless all of your party is present and accounted for. Don't try to get around it. Trust me. They get pissy about this. And, they don't take reservations, so you can end up waiting for a table. If it's a weekend, your best bet is to go at an odd time, or be prepared to hang out. Finally, don't expect great service. The wait staff is certainly competant, but they definitely don't fawn over you, and some of them are down right ambivalent. That being said, it's still a great place to eat and the place most everyone in our family chooses when it's time for their birthday lunch.
