Santa Barbara: Taqueria La Colmena

Tiny place just up the street from the more famous La Super Rica. Excellent food, friendly local vibe, no line.

We've eaten at the more famous taco place on Milpas, and were steered to this one as an alternative. There was no line on a Saturday afternoon when the line snaked down the street at Super Rica. At La Colmena the customers seemed to be all local, with Spanish the prevalent language. We ordered several items. The tacos were on the small side, so I suggest ordering several. We loved the rajas, and a daily special of chicken mole taco. Good guacamole. Also wonderful was an adobada with grilled pork, chiles and cheese. There's a cute salsa bar with the usual chunky homemade salsas, plus an interesting peanut salsa, and marinated vegetables.

I think the two of us stuffed ourselves for $15. No beer, sadly.
