It was the truffle pizza that did it. It pushed me over the edge from love to obsession ... with Tony's pizza.

The classic wood-fired Margherita pizza we had as a "starter" was damn good. The tomato sauce tasted so fresh! There's a reason chef-owner Tony Gemignani was the 2007 World Pizza Cup Winner in Naples, Italy with this pizza. The Sicilian-style vegetarian "Genovese" was also tasty. Who knew deep-dish crust could have such great texture and flavor?

But the truffle pizza, my oh my. If you tasted ingredients like this ... Mozzarella, Burrata, Cowgirl Creamery Mt. Tam Triple Cream Cheese, Wild Mushrooms, Arugula, Parmigiano, Shaved Truffle ... I think you'd become a bit giddy, too. At $38 it's expensive ... but worth every penny. (And calorie!)

My friend Sue says she dreams about the "Italian Style Meatballs" - six HEARTY meatballs for $5!

Tony's doesn't take reservations, but we've been able to walk in for a late lunch or early dinner and be seated right away. The entrance area with hostess station, bar, and banquet seating is usually hopping; the back room with the pizza ovens, more banquets, and tables is a bit mellower.

During good weather there's outside dining, too.
