Excellent restaurant in amazing surroundings on Maryland's Eastern Shore.

I visited this restaurant on July 5, i.e. the Saturday of the holiday weekend. We had spent two great days in Cambridge, Maryland, and decided to cap the trip with a visit to the Inn at Perry Cabin and their famous restaurant, Sherwood’s Landing, in St. Michael’s, MD. The hotel and the restaurant had been recommended by a colleague and boy, she was right!

The hotel is one of the most beautiful places I have ever been and the restaurant was fantastic. We walked around the grounds and it is just gorgeous. The flowers and landscaping, not to mention the herb garden, which looks like an intricate English garden, made the place very special. We had drinks on the terrace overlooking the Bay before heading indoors for dinner.

The restaurant also overlooks the Bay and the atmosphere was calm and peaceful, even with two large rooms with diners (many of them were staying at the hotel). We shared a wonderful Italian Pinot Grigio while looking at the menu, and then we were brought a tasty amuse bouche - a zucchini soup with a little parmiggiano. For appetizers, A. had the most amazing crab spring rolls with grapefruit (yes, we all tried them) and J. had pea soup. The spring rolls had that special something that reminds me why great restaurants are great - amazing, somewhat surprising flavors that blend together extremely well.

We had a very fun waiter (from Texas, actually) and she recommended the lamb. I am copying the whole title here as it was really something special: “Honey and Tarragon Glazed Shank of Lamb with Parmentier Potatoes, Leeks, Glazed Baby Vegetables and Sun Dried Tomato Sauce.” It was just as good as it sounds! The meat was falling off the bone (it was done osso bucco style) and could have been eaten with a spoon. A. had the jumbo crab cake and J. had a wonderful fish. Dessert was something with peanut butter and chocolate for A. and sorbets for J. All delicious!

This restaurant is only slightly more than an hour away from DC and absolutely worth the trip. Living in a city with a lot of different restaurants makes it easy to forget that there are lots of great choices outside of DC as well. This evening made me remember that.
