2bed/2bath apartment in Santa Fe, New Mexico

When

September 2004, 3 nights

Location

Location: 320 Kearney Street, #22, Santa Fe, NM

Web address: www.santaferentals.com (listed as property #389)

This apartment is on a hill about five blocks from downtown Santa Fe. It is in a compound and shares a quiet private courtyard with four other apartments. Parking for one car is included with the rental and parking for additional cars is available on the street. There are several steps to navigate from the parking area to the apartment so it would not be a good choice for those with physical limitations.

Nearby Amenities

Walking into town for coffee, sightseeing, restaurants etc. was easy, but getting back at the end of the day was a challenge due to the hill, compounded by the altitude of Santa Fe. There is a large Albertson's supermarket about two miles away, Whole Foods is three or four miles.

The House/Apartment

The building is the typical Santa Fe architecture and was in very good shape. This apartment shares the building with five others and there are several similar buildings in the compound.

Garden

There were several lovely, furnished outdoor sitting areas. The main courtyard is shared with three other apartments but the landscaping creates a sense of privacy for each apartment. The front door and a door from the living room open onto this area. There is another ground level sitting area off of the dining room that is private and surrounded by a fence. A third sitting area is off the master suite on the second floor and is furnished with a table and chairs.

Furnishings/Cleanliness/Living Areas

The furniture was new or nearly new and in great shape. The living room features a fireplace (wood is provided), a sectional sofa that opens into a double bed, a couple of chairs, TV, VCR, stereo and a variety of books. There is a door that opens onto a large public courtyard.

The dining room is large and the table easily seats 6. There is a small, private patio off of the dining room.

There is no air conditioning or ceiling fans but high tech floor fans are provided in the bedrooms.

Bedrooms/Bathrooms

On the first floor there is a bedroom with queen bed, cable TV, chest of drawers and comfortable reading chair. Off the foyer next to the bedroom is a small full bathroom (so small that you have to get all the way in to shut the door) with a combination tub/shower.

A spiral staircase leads up to the master suite. To the right at the top of the stairs is a bedroom area with a queen bed, cable TV, chest of drawers and comfortable reading chair. A small full bath (same dimensions and layout as the first floor bath) opens off this room. To the left of the stairs is a small sitting area and a door opening onto a balcony with a table and chairs.

Kitchen

The kitchen is small but functional with a full size refrigerator (no ice maker), dishwasher, microwave, toaster and toaster oven. There is plenty of dish and cookware and large meals could easily be prepared and served here. The layout isn't great for cooking, especially multiple cooks, but it is workable.

Agency and Representatives (and price)

I dealt with Marilyn Proctor at The Management Group, 320 Paso de Peralta, Suite G, Santa Fe, NM 87501 (phone 505-982-2823). She was pleasant, helpful and responded promptly. We paid the full rental of $777 (which included the cleaning fee) by check in advance.

Do you recommend this vacation rental to others?

I would definately stay here again, it was very pleasant, comfortable and well located.
