Review 1271: The Village at Mammoth, Apartment
1bed/1bath apartment in Mammoth, California
July, 2004, 4 days
We rented a condominum in the newest development at Mammoth Mountain. Our rental was in the White Mountain Lodge and located on the second floor. The 'Village' is a series of the three condominum units with shops and restaurants below. Our condo overlooked the main village area.
The Village is a great place to be if you are skiing or in the summer, mountain biking. In the winter, there is a lift right in the Village. In the summer, the shuttle will pick you up and take you to the main activity center and lifts for mountain biking.
Just take the elevator down to the ground floor and you could find several restaurants, Starbucks and other shops. For groceries, there was a Vons supermarket a short drive away on Old Mammoth Road. We didn't eat at the restaurants in the village. There are many restaurants in the vicinity to choose from.
The Village and condominum unit was built in 2004 and very modern. The style is very nice with dark wood. The style is Misson/Arts and Craft/Western lodge.
There is a small balcony. There was no pool but there was a gym with a jacuzzi hot tub.
It was newly furnished and very clean. There is daily maid service and they would often do the dishes or start the dishwasher. The sofa and chairs were very comfortable. There was cable TV, CD and DVD. You could rent DVDs from the front desk. There were lots of lamps and good lighting.
The bed was comfortable. There was a lot of closet space to spread out. There was a second TV in the bedroom. The bathroom was large with shower/tub and a goodsized sink area. There was great lighting. The flooring was slate.
The kitchen was very clean. The pans were good quality although we didn't cook. We did make a light dinner of salad one night. There was a dishwasher and microwave. Coffee was provided daily.
Problems or Bonuses
The condo was much warmer than I expected. It was the end of July and the temperature during the day was around 85-90 degrees. The condo faced west and the setting sun and it was quite warm when we arrived. There wasn't any air conditioning but the did offer us a fan. It did cool down at night. It was not that bad the next day since the condo had been open. It does have a fireplace which would be nice in the winter.
Agency and Representatives (and price)
I booked over the web and it was very easy. I did not receive a confirmation by mail. It was somewhat unclear from the web where exactly they were located in Mammoth. I phoned and they were helpful and gave directions over the phone. The staff was very helpful. We paid summer rates of $185.00 per day which are much lower than the winter rates.
Do you recommend this vacation rental to others?
Yes, I would recommend this rental. I would recommend trying to get a unit that was not right above the shopping and bar/restaurant area just because it could be a bit noisy.
Things to do in this area
It is the perfect area to explore eastern California. There are many trails in the area for hiking the high Sierra. For day trips, you can visit Mono Lake, Yosemite, and Bodie. In the summer, there is great mountain biking trails on Mammoth. In the winter, excellent skiing. It is an excellent place for a family. For casual dining, try Giovanni's Pizza at 437 Old Mammoth RD. For gourmet diner, Convict Lake Resort.
