Review 1303: Sublet in the City, Midtown 3 bedroom Doorman Building
3bed/1bath apartment near Times Square in New York City, New York
02/05/2005, 2 weeks
Stayed in NYC while visiting family. We are a family of 6 and the stay was very nice. We actually had a nice large living room and 5 beds in a doorman building. The location was close to Times Square which was convenient to Rockefeller Center, Fifth Avenue and Central Park. Personally, I'd like to have stayed closer to the Empire State Building.
The apartment and the service of getting access to the apartment worked out well. We picked up keys on Park Avenue at 11 pm at night and everything was ready for us. We had previously got burnt by a brokerage firm and were relieved that things went smoothly. Try them out as we stayed on 44th street and 6th avenue. Please note that this accommodation would not be suitable for more than 6 people. They have a website www.subletinthecity.com while we booked through www.newyorkbedandbreakfast.us.
Times Square, Rockefeller Center, Madison Square Garden, Fifth Avenue, Central Park, Columbus Circle, Empire State Building, Grand Central. Dinners downstairs, grocery store 2 blocks away, restaurants downstairs, parking across the street. Everything needed was there.
Pre-war building, doorman told us it used to be a famous hotel a long time ago. Apartments were newly renovated - maybe 1 year old kitchen and bathrooms and living rooms. A lot of windows. Not much of a view but the rooms were convenient. Central A/C.
No garden area.
The furniture was 1 year old. The place was clean; 6 chairs was enough and the sofa was fine for us to watch TV.
The rooms were quiet for being in NYC. 1 bathroom, 3 bedrooms and 5 beds plus the sofa bed which was a pull-out bed. New linens and new towels were nice.
We had enough of kitchen amenities including a bottle opener. We could have used a larger pasta pot and were glad to see a colendar.
Problems or Bonuses
It was a great stay. I would recommend this place as there is no broker fees involved and the apartments were spacious for our family.
Agency and Representatives (and price)
All booking was done over the phone and fax. It was smooth although they had a lot of pages to sign. Fred was professional and courteous and they offered to fedex us the keys. They helpedd us with getting a car service limo so we could all get into the city without hassles. That paid off as it was raining and tons of people were waiting.
Do you recommend this vacation rental to others?
Absolutely! Just make sure you don't have more than 6 people in one apartment as they won't allow more. However, you might be able to get 2 apartments on the same floor.
Things to do in this area
Everything Manhattan has to offer. Kids loved it with Toys R Us on Times Square to lazer parks.
