2bed/1bath house, Kailua-Kona, Hawaii

View from the front of Turtle Beach Cottage, photo by my husband, Tony

When

Feb 2005, 5 days

Location

The Turtle Beach Cottage is a few minutes south of Kailua-Kona town center on a private bay. There weren't any buildings next to the cottage - the beach is very private there. The beach house was very peaceful and in a great location.

Nearby Amenities

There is a small grocery store about 10 minutes by foot. There is also a nice farmers market also 10 minutes by foot. There are plenty of places to eat and grocery stores within a 10 minute drive.

The House/Apartment

Turtle Beach Cottage is a typical late 30's Hawaiian home but it was renovated very recently. The house was in great shape and very clean. You do hear the continuous sound of the ocean right out the front door.

Garden

There is a private lanai right outside the main door with a table and chairs and a great ocean view. There are tide pools right in front of the house, but you will have to share with a family of sea turtles that live in them.

Furnishings/Cleanliness/Living Areas

All furnishings were tasteful, clean and comfortable. The house was immaculate and plenty of seating.

Bedrooms/Bathrooms

The master bedroom had a brand new king matress and the second bedroom had 2 full size beds. The bathroom was large and worked well.

Kitchen

There is a large, fully stocked kitchen with newer appliances. It was a nice place to put together meals and easy to cook in.

Problems or Bonuses

The best surprise was the family of sea turtles that live just outside in the lava pools. They were so amusing to watch and not afraid of humans. The views were amazing - we were shocked at just how close we were to the ocean - right on it! There are some great photos on their website.

Agency and Representatives (and price)

The owners were very friendly and easy to deal with. The website is very accurate and we saw many of the views in the photos. The price was $275 per night and really worth it.

Do you recommend this vacation rental to others?

Highly recommend - we are planning another visit soon. Our only regret was not staying longer.

Things to do in this area

This is a great area to walk along - great beaches and sunsets. We loved the Alii Drive Farmers Market nearby. The Big Island Grill is 10 minutes by car and had some great fresh seafood and steaks. Kailua-Kona town center is 10 minutes away and has loads of shops and activities. But our favorite thing to do was sit on our lanai and watch the sea turtles nearby and the surfers in the distance.
