My family and I wanted to spend the 2004 Christmas holidays in Florida so we contacted funbeachrentals.com. We were required to send a $500 deposit to reserve the home and pay for the rental upon arrival. Upon arrival we paid the remainder of the balance which was $1625.25 in the form of a cashiers check.
The house we rented provided 5 bedrooms and also included a swim spa. When we arrived the swim spa was cold and we were not able to use it. We contacted funbeachrentals.com and they said they would have the maintenance man come over and fix it. A few hours later no one showed up and we decided to turn the heat up ourselves and it was day two before we could use it.
We came out the following morning to see now that the spa was half full of water and was leaking water out of the pump. I contacted funbeachrentals.com again to inform them of this problem and they told us the spa was under waranty and not to worry about it. Approximately 8 hours later the repair man showed up and had to replace the pump for a cost of 80 dollars. funbeachrentals.com informed me that we probably got a beer bottle cap stuck in the motor and stripped it out but not to worry about it. How many properly working spas do you think allow something the size of a beer bottle cap into the motor? Bottom line, that did not happen.
After the Spa was fixed, it worked fine the rest of the trip. Just before our departure, we all cleaned the place up and had it looking just the way we found it. As well as shuting down the spa and putting the cover back on it. We all own houses and took care of the place like it was our own going above and beyond what was required because there was also a $99 clean up fee built into the price. funbeachrentals.com came over that morning and gave me a personal check for the $500 deposit and stated "Everything looks great and we appreciate your business and would love to have you back." We then departed and flew back home to Texas.
We deposited the $500 check and 6-7 days later they stopped payment on the check. I called them right away and they said someone else would call me. One month later they said someone would call me but they did not. We then reported them to the BBB and their response was that we got 2 bottle caps stuck in the motor of the spa and damaged two motors stating that it cost $500. The Spa was working fine when we left and they have provided no proof that any damage was caused by us.
I contacted several spa repair professionals and they all stated that a safe, normal functioning spa would not allow what funbeachrentals.com are accusing us of.
A few days ago, (4 months later) I called funbeachrentals.com again and stated "I would like to discuss the matter of my $500 please." They then said they were running out the door and hung up on me.
Bottom line - we were taken for our money.
