Review 1983: Owner, Dragonfly House
2 bd/2.5 bath house near beach in Santa Cruz, California
March 2006, 3 days
We enjoyed 3 fabulous nights in this house. It isn't just a house, it is a sanctuary! It is a short walk to the beach and to great restaurants, (Crows Nest) etc. Whale watching, the Boardwalk, whatever you desire, peace and tranquility (a lagoon behind the house!), or the night life, it is close by! The house is totally charming! There is a feeling of peace in this house, of belonging. Great kitchen, everything you could want. We felt so at home here. Lovely garden area, glass doors open completely to bring the garden area in. Heated floor, quiet neighborhood. Super owners, Benny & Kamara were really outstanding, from booking to check-in, they made my trip with family from England the best! While you are close to everything, and can even sometimes hear the surf, it feels like you are in a very private sanctuary. The decor is lovely! I highly recommend Dragonfly House, and from what I read in the guestbook, I wasn't the only one that felt this place was special.
Yes! Crows Nest for dinner, a lovely french pastry cafe for breakfast (both of these on the beach), market just around the corner. But not so close as to interfere with your peace and enjoyment. Ideal.
In beautiful condition with beautiful decor. Lovely symmetry in this house. 2 story, 1/2 bath on ground floor, lovely baths for each bedroom on 2nd floor. Both bedrooms have french doors out to a private area.
YES! Small but lovely. Private garden, plenty of seating. Birds and squirrels abound. No pool, but who needs it? The ocean was so close. Loved to hear the surf.
Everything was lovely. Comfortable and nicely appointed. Definitely well thought out and decorated! We were a party of 5, and we all felt comfortable, adequate room and very clean.
Lovely, just lovely! Very comfy, even pillows were great! No waiting for the bathroom, plenty in this house, and very nice as well!
The kitchen is fully stocked with pots, pans, and everything you could want. We cooked here every night and morning, taking turns, and never lacked for a single pot or utensil. We had great fun!
Problems or Bonuses
I couldn't quite get the lock box to open properly. But Kamara and Benny must have been turned into my frustration, because they appeared within 10 minutes and got us situated and made us feel thoroughly welcome! This does NOT mean we were being watched, the owners are not always in Santa Cruz, but just seemed to "know" I was having a problem. They are alway available via cell also. They were fabulous.
Agency and Representatives (and price)
The best. Absolutely the best! You deal with the owners directly and they are lovely people. The in-house guest book reflects the truth of this. We paid $225 per night (off season, March), and felt we definitely scored on this booking. Well worth the price.
Do you recommend this vacation rental to others?
I would stay here again in a heartbeat! I haven't a single complaint!
Things to do in this area
We went whale watching (saw so many whales too! 3 hour trip from Monterey) which was just fabulous! Monterey Bay Aquarium is great fun, Cannery Row, Capitola, Santa Cruz Boardwalk, Mystery Spot (brief, but very intriguing!) Great restaurants, bird watching on lagoon, great shops with items from local artists. Much to do here, surfing, botanical garden at the university. Really broad offerings, so choose your purpose-we felt our interests were met beautifully.
