Review 2349: Owner, The Acorn House
1bed/1bath cottage in Kenwood, CA, California
September 6 to September 13 2006, 1 week
The location of the rental cottage was in the country on a private four acre property about 1/4 mile from the main road. It afforded accessibiltity and privacy.
The property is located in the heart of Sonoma wine country only minutes drive from all the major wineries.
The cottage was so private, the owners never gave us a key to the front door!!! Hence, we never locked it and felt safe at all times.
We were not able to walk to any stores or restaurants. It is necessary to drive almost everywhere.
This small cottage is the only rental on the property. The owners live in a detached house about a hundred feet away.
The cottage was built about ten years ago but looks brand new. The owners keep it in immaculate condition and do not rent to people who would abuse the cottage.
It is very peaceful, private and quiet.
There is no pool but there's a hot tub and a deck and a patio. We sat out every afternoon for wine and cheese prior to going to dinner.
None of the high quality furniture showed any wear at all. We had enough seats for ten people (there were only two of us). There were four outside chairs. Two on the patio (with table) and two on the deck.
The open air bedroom (it opened into the living room) had a queen size bed with plenty of extra pillows. The storage space is enormous (actually it's a seperate room with satin hangers, etc). The bedroom has a small flat screen TV, also.
The blue bathroom is enormous and has both a seperate shower and a separate tub with a jacuzzi built in!! The bathroom is all tiled.
We had our only meal (breakfast) prepared in the kitchen. The owner has generously left us practically anything you could want for breakfast.
We never cooked in the kitchen but the pots and pans and knives were of top quality. The glassware was in perfect condition and of every size and shape. There were wineglasses ans openers etc.
Problems or Bonuses
We were amazed at the quality of the cottage. The pictures (on their website) don't do it justice. Also, the owners were the best people we have ever encountered. They were so friendly and went above and beyond not only what we expected but what we've experienced in the past. We were invited into their private wine cellar to taste some of the wine made on the premises.
The only bad part was we only booked for a week.
Agency and Representatives (and price)
We booked directly with the owners Bev and Gerry. Upon arrival we were shown everything about the place including being introduced to their super friendly Australian sheepdog named Sadie.
We paid the very low rate of $850.00 per week this September. I don't know if the rates change by season.
Do you recommend this vacation rental to others?
I cannot recommened this place highly enough!!!!! Everything about it exceeded our expectations. I would highly recommend that anyone looking to spend a relaxing week touring the wineries in Sonoma or looking for a cozy, private long weekend get-away not to overlook this cottage.
Check out the prices of the other places, then stay here!!!!!
Things to do in this area
We visited almost all the top wineries in Sonoma Valley, we hiked in three different state parks, we visited Jack London's property in Glen Ellen. We went to restaurants in Sonoma (the Girl and the Fig and Lahaye) and Cafe Citti and Doce Lunas in Kenwood. We visited Napa, Ca from the cottage but only for a day.
We didn't do any shopping other than six bottles of wine. Ask the owners (Bev and Gerry Stemach) where to get the best deal on buying wine. They'll be glad to share this $$$$ saving tip with you.
