Review 3044: Hopper Real Estate, #344 (Kole Property, Starboard Rd)
3bed/1.5bath house in Eastham, Cape Cod, Massachusetts
August 2007, 1 week
The house is down a dirt road, two streets from Massassoit Road in Eastham. The house is very private and quiet, in spite of being easy biking distance to the shops and restaurants on Rt. 6. It's a fabulous location, a mile to the Bay beaches. Nice residential neighborhood of houses on large lots.
You can walk or bike to the Ben and Jerry's, deli, small stores and several restaurants on Rt. 6. The large grocery stores are in Orleans, a 10 minute drive. It's a 10 minute drive to Wellfleet, and 20-25 to Provincetown.
The house is a recently renovated and expanded ranch-style house with the typical weathered shingles of the Cape. You enter through a side door to a huge kitchen in the new addition. From here, there's a cozy sunroom with door to the back patio. You continue through the sunroom to the older part of the house, a hallway area with laundry and doors to the two bathrooms. This leads to the living room, and the three bedrooms off it. The set-up gives you two living spaces at opposite ends of the house, great for groups with different sleeping habits. Everything is fresh and new, with light-colored paint, bead-board, and comfortable though simple "beachy" furnishings.
There's a very nice patio with dining set, and a huge yard shaded by mature trees.
The house was spotless, and obviously well cared for. The furniture is all comfortable and in good condition.
There is a large master bedroom with a queen bed, closet, and two dressers. The two twin bedrooms are much smaller, each with two twin beds, closet, and small storage unit. Each bedroom has several windows, so even the small ones feel airy. There are portable fans in each room. The bathrooms are new, with fixtures in good condition.
The kitchen is fabulous! It's very large, with a table for six at one end and the working area at the other. There's also a counter area with three (uncomfortable, but fine for kids) stools for extra seating. Everything you could possibly need for making full meals of some complexity; the owners seem to be cooks who appreciate cookware and gadgets! Large fridge, dishwasher, microwave, toaster, coffeepot, two lobster pots, pots, dishes, bakeware, etc.
Problems or Bonuses
This is a great beach rental for the money!
Agency and Representatives (and price)
Hopper was very good to work with. They answered e-mails promptly, recommended properties they thought would suit my needs, and everything was done very professionally.
Do you recommend this vacation rental to others?
We really enjoyed this house, and would happily recommend it. It's particularly well suited to a family.
Things to do in this area
Bike to the beaches, go hiking at the Audubon Reserve in Wellfleet (sign up in advance for their nature programs and canoe trips!). Eat great simple seafood at the Friendly Fisherman or Arnolds in Eastham, or out on the Weffleet Pier at Mac's on the Harbor. For more than "fried or broiled" go to the Wicked Oyster in Wellfleet. Gallery-hop in Wellfleet, hit a bucket of balls at T-Time, bike the Bike Trail up to Race Point, go to Campground Beach at sunset with a bottle of wine.
