Review 408: Owner, The Kenwood House
2bed/1.5bath house in Kenwood, near Sonoma, California
December 1999, 1 week
This house is in the town of Kenwood, just north of Sonoma in the Valley of the Moon. We rented this house for a week in December 1999. There were four of us and it was very comfortable for all of us. It is an older cottage that was completely remodeled. The owner is an architect and has his office in a separate building on the same property. He lives nearby and can give you lots of information about the area. The house is a few blocks off Highway 12 (the main highway from Santa Rosa to Sonoma). You can hear some highway noise, but I think you do in most places in this area.
The house is beside a church and across from a nice park. The furniture is very nice and comfortable. It has a large, eat-in kitchen, a big living room, the two bedrooms (one with a half bath), a full bathroom, and a little study off one bedroom. There is a nice front porch and a large deck out back.
From this house you can easily visit the Sonoma and Napa wineries and do great hiking in the nearby parks. The only downside is that there is not much in Kenwood. It has a good small Italian restaurant, but no grocery stores. The closest grocery store is only a few miles away in Glen Ellen.
We really liked this house, but did feel it was expensive. However, the prices seemed comparable to other places like this in the area. You can rent it by the night.
