3bed/2bath duplex Cayucos, California WhenJune 2009, 3 nights LocationOur unit, 238 B Pacific, was the upper half of a duplex located on a bluff right on the ocean in the little beachfront town of Cayucos. Cayucos is just off Route 1 a bit south of Cambria on the Central Coast. The location, with the Pacific Ocean on one's doorstep, was terrific. The street Pacific runs parallel to Ocean Avenue, the main drag in town, and it would have been about a five minute walk to shops and restaurants. Because parking was easy, we usually took the car. Nearby AmenitiesYou could walk to coffee and several restaurants. There was a small market in town, a little too far to walk back with groceries. Morro Bay, at most 10 minutes south, is the closest working town, and has at least a couple of larger supermarkets. The House/ApartmentThis attractive gray-shingled property had been remodeled in 1998. There was no one in the lower unit at the time we were there. It is located on a residential street with little space between houses, but we never felt intruded upon in any way. There are public beach access stairs down the street to the right and left of the house; the ones to the right are easier to negotiate. The washer and dryer are located in the garage. You couldn't park in the garage, but there was off-street parking. You can view the property directly: 238 Pacific B. GardenThere was a deck facing the ocean with two chaises lounges and four other chairs. The view and the sound of the waves were spectacular. We spotted an otter and a pod of dolphins and loved watching the sea birds skim over the water and hunt for fish. Furnishings/Cleanliness/Living AreasThe decor was charming -- nautical shabby chic, perfectly harmonious with the house and the area. It had the look of a professional decorator. The house was clean and in order. One of the queen bedrooms was separated from the living room by folding wooden doors and also had a door into the hall. The other two bedrooms were located at the end of the short hall. One bath was located in the hall and the other was off the other queen bedroom. The dining table could accommodate six people. The total space was 1200 square feet, perfect for our family of four. Bedrooms/BathroomsThe bedrooms were lovely and very comfortable. The bathrooms were clean and modern. The bath adjacent to the back queen bedroom was larger than the one in the hall. KitchenThe kitchen was large relative to the size of the house and very well outfitted -- Bosch dishwasher, Henckels knives, microwave, Braun coffee maker, lots of dishes and glasses in good condition. We cooked breakfast but no other meals. You could easily cook dinners. There was also a grill on the deck. Problems or BonusesIt's even prettier than the pictures suggest and the proximity of the ocean is quite dramatic. Agency and Representatives (and price)The agency was professional and responsive, very easy to deal with. We rented just at the beginning of high season, which ordinarily requires a one week minimum. However, because it was so early in the season, the agency was willing to rent for less than a week. We paid $340/day plus tax plus the cleaning fee of $170. Do you recommend this vacation rental to others?I almost didn't submit this review because I wanted to keep this one a secret. Things to do in this area
